Respect for privacy and adherence to security controls are what help to contribute to a stable environment required for academic inquiry. Privacy and security are essential to supporting the University’s mission of teaching, research and public service. The concept and principles surrounding privacy extend to all functional areas and disciplines of UNC-Chapel Hill. We abide by applicable federal regulations and state laws that pertain to the collection, maintenance, use and destruction of records and individually identifiable information.
Some examples of individually identifiable information are protected health information (PHI) found in a medical record or personally identifiable information (PII) found on an employee pay stub or background check. Some examples of protected records may include student education records.
