All institutions governed by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, also known as “HIPAA,” must train their employees regarding protected health information (PHI) and its transmission. If you come in contact with PHI as part of your work, it is mandatory that you become familiar with the University’s policies and procedures for the handling of health information. All affected campus personnel will be notified of their required training by their respective Privacy Liaison. HIPAA training is updated annually and must be completed annually.

The following training may apply:

  • HIPAA training for campus personnel:
    Go to Sakai; Click on the “Onyen Login” button. Enter your Onyen and password and click login. Once logged into your account, click on the “University HIPAA Training” tab. On the left hand side you’ll see a menu item for “Resources,” which will have the training module, and another one for “Quiz,” which will have the quiz. Review the module and then take the quiz until you score at least 16/20. You can take the quiz multiple times, and in the feedback section you can see which questions you answered incorrectly.
  • HIPAA training for the School of Dentistry personnel
  • HIPAA training for the School of Medicine personnel
